HAPPENINGS ON THE AVENUE

Each and every block on Piedmont Ave has its own little universe of excitement. We welcome you to explore the many nooks of the Avenue and find your fun! In addition to our legendary annual Halloween Parade and Holiday Tree Lighting happenings, below are a few other suggestions to get you going.

Bluegrass Saturdays @ Baja Taqueria

The Bluegrass Taco Jam at Baja Taqueria brings some of the top players from around the Bay Area and beyond to Piedmont Ave every Saturday for traditional Bluegrass and more from 5:30-7:30pm. Baja has been hosting the jam since 1992 and it’s been featured as the premier bluegrass jam in the Bay Area. And it’s free! Bring the whole family. Tequila, tacos and bluegrass. What else do you need?

“Seasonal SATURDAYS” @ piedmont lane

Every couple months, the vintage experts at The Sunshine Prophecy and Heads or Tails Vintage, along with the wonderfully tucked-back music shop Mars Records, host a fantastic outdoor market with rotating vendors, DJs and always-more fun surprises.

Access the magic just behind Dek Doi Cafe and Mille Fiori Flowers (if you can get by guard-dog “Luna”), to get yourself into the hidden courtyard, and then slip through Mars into the backyard. Or just stroll through Sunshine for a direct shot to the back! You'll forget where in the world you are. Get yourself to Piedmont & 41st St and fall right in!

Annual Halloween celebration & Costume parade

An annual event now for 36 years, the Piedmont Ave Halloween Celebration brings merchants, neighbors, families and kids of all ages together for a day of spooky fun. This year’s event falls on Saturday Oct 26th. There will be earlier morning activities including Storytime at Key Route Plaza and Cartoons at the Piedmont Theatre, followed by the main event, the Costume Parade, kicking off at 11am at Pet Food Express and strolling up the Avenue. Live music, trick or treating, haunted houses, face painting, skull craft, and the famous Pet Costume Contest are just some of the fun to expect. The annual Tree Lighting event the first Saturday of December has been going on for 15+ years and features a chance for kids to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus plus features performances by the Pacific Boy Choir and local musicians. This past Holiday season, a fun idea was hatched to designate a night for a neighborhood Holiday Market where shops would stay open a bit later, offer discounts, and cookies/eggnog, etc... It was a blast, and we plan to make this a tradition each year.
